Based on a Germanic silver fibula, 4 AD(Danube region).
made in Bronze and silver.
The Celtic age was with out elastic, and fancy snaps so in order to keep clothing secure and as a way of expressing fashion and style a simple yet very functional pin was used. These pins known as fibula not only secured clothing but pouches and other jewelry such as beads, chains, Broaches. Even personal tools (like the knives found in graves of a few women close to the Orkneys) were secured to the clothing with them. Though this Fibula is rather plain there are many that are complicated in design and in form. The fibulas vary from culture to area and the influences surrounding the owners area. Roman influences are very prominent as they moved into areas of Gaul and Briton.
